ואוסיף רוגזא דיי למתקף בישראל וגרי ית דוד בהון למימר אזיל מני ית ישראל וית דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth wyth yshral yth mny azyl lmymr bhwn dwd yth wgry byshral lmthqp dyy rwgza wawsyp
Again Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, “Go, count Israel and Judah.”

ואמר מלכא ליואב רב חילא דעמיה הליך כען בכל שבטא דישראל מדן ועד באר שבע ומני ית עמא ואידע ית חשבן עמא:
ema khshbn yth wayde ema yth wmny shbe bar wed mdn dyshral shbTa bkl ken hlyk demyh khyla rb lywab mlka wamr
The king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, “Now go back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and count the people, that I may know the sum of the people.”

ואמר יואב למלכא ויוסף יי אלהך על עמא כאלין וכאלין מאה זמנין ועיני רבוני מלכא חזן ורבוני מלכא למא אתרעי בפתגמא הדין:
hdyn bpthgma athrey lma mlka wrbwny khzn mlka rbwny weyny zmnyn mah wkalyn kalyn ema el alhk yy wywsp lmlka ywab wamr
Joab said to the king, “Now may Yahweh your God add to the people, however many they may be, one hundred times; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?”

ותקיף פתגמא דמלכא על יואב ועל רבני חילא ונפק יואב ורבני חילא קדם מלכא לממני ית עמא ית ישראל:
yshral yth ema yth lmmny mlka qdm khyla wrbny ywab wnpq khyla rbny wel ywab el dmlka pthgma wthqyp
Notwithstanding, the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army. Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to count the people of Israel.

ועברו ית ירדנא ושרו בערוער דרום קרתא דבגו נחלא דשבטא גד ואל יעזר:
yezr wal gd dshbTa nkhla dbgw qrtha drwm berwer wshrw yrdna yth webrw
They passed over the Jordan and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and to Jazer;

ואתו לגלעד ולארעא דרומא לחדשי ואתו לדן יען ומתמן אסתחר לצידון:
ltsydwn asthkhr wmthmn yen ldn wathw lkhdshy drwma wlarea lgled wathw
then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim Hodshi; and they came to Dan Jaan and around to Sidon,

ואתו לקירוין כריכן וכל קרוי חואי וכנענאי ונפקו לדרום יהודה לבאר שבע:
shbe lbar yhwdh ldrwm wnpqw wknenay khway qrwy wkl krykn lqyrwyn wathw
and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beersheba.

והליכו בכל ארעא ואתו מסיפי תשעת ירחין ועסרין יומין לירושלם:
lyrwshlm ywmyn wesryn yrkhyn thsheth msypy wathw area bkl whlykw
So when they had gone back and forth through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

ויהב יואב ית חשבן מנין עמא למלכא והוו ישראל תמני מאה אלפין גבר גבר שלפי סיפא ואנש יהודה חמש מאה אלפין גברא:
gbra alpyn mah khmsh yhwdh wansh sypa shlpy gbr gbr alpyn mah thmny yshral whww lmlka ema mnyn khshbn yth ywab wyhb
Joab gave up the sum of the counting of the people to the king; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

וחש דוד בלביה בתר כן דמנא ית עמא ואמר דוד קדם יי חבית לחדא דעבדית הדא וכען יי אעבר כען ית חובא דעבדך ארי אתתכלית לחדא:
lkhda aththklyth ary debdk khwba yth ken aebr yy wken hda debdyth lkhda khbyth yy qdm dwd wamr ema yth dmna kn bthr blbyh dwd wkhsh
David’s heart struck him after he had counted the people. David said to Yahweh, “I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. But now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.”

וקם דוד בצפרא ופתגם נבואה מן קדם יי הוה עם גד נביא חזויא דדוד למימר:
lmymr ddwd khzwya nbya gd em hwh yy qdm mn nbwah wpthgm btspra dwd wqm
When David rose up in the morning, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,

אזיל ותמליל עם דוד כדנן אמר יי חדא מתלת אנא רמי עלך בחר לך חד מנהון ואעבד לך:
lk waebd mnhwn khd lk bkhr elk rmy ana mthlth khda yy amr kdnn dwd em wthmlyl azyl
“Go and speak to David, ‘Yahweh says, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”

ואתא גד לות דוד וחוי ליה ואמר ליה התעול לך שבע שנין כפנא בארעך אם תלתא ירחין תהי עריק קדם סנאך והוא רדיף לך ואם מהוה תלתא יומין מותא בארעך כען דע וחזי מה אתיב שלחי פתגמא:
pthgma shlkhy athyb mh wkhzy de ken barek mwtha ywmyn thltha mhwh wam lk rdyp whwa snak qdm eryq thhy yrkhyn thltha am barek kpna shnyn shbe lk hthewl lyh wamr lyh wkhwy dwd lwth gd watha
So Gad came to David, and told him, saying, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”

ואמר דוד לגד עקת לי לחדא נתמסר כען ביד מימרא דיי ארי סגיאין רחמוהי ובידא דאנשא לא אתמסר:
athmsr la dansha wbyda rkhmwhy sgyayn ary dyy mymra byd ken nthmsr lkhda ly eqth lgd dwd wamr
David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let us fall now into Yahweh’s hand, for his mercies are great. Let me not fall into man’s hand.”

ויהב יי מותא בישראל מעידן דמתנכיס תמידא ועד דמתסק ומית מן עמא מדן ועד באר שבע שבעין אלפין גברא:
gbra alpyn shbeyn shbe bar wed mdn ema mn wmyth dmthsq wed thmyda dmthnkys meydn byshral mwtha yy wyhb
So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time; and seventy thousand men died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba.

ואושיט ידיה מלאכא לירושלם לחבלותה ותב יי מן בישתא ואמר למלאכא דמחבל בעמא מסת כען אגח ידך ומלאכא דיי הוה שרי בבית אידרי דארנון יבוסאה:
ybwsah darnwn aydry bbyth shry hwh dyy wmlaka ydk agkh ken msth bema dmkhbl lmlaka wamr byshtha mn yy wthb lkhblwthh lyrwshlm mlaka ydyh wawshyT
When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

ואמר דוד קדם יי כד חזא ית מלאכא דמקטל בעמא ואמר הא אנא חבית ואנא סרחית ואלין עמא דאינון כענא ביד רעיא מה עבדו תהי כען מחתך בי ובבית אבא:
aba wbbyth by mkhthk ken thhy ebdw mh reya byd kena daynwn ema walyn srkhyth wana khbyth ana ha wamr bema dmqTl mlaka yth khza kd yy qdm dwd wamr
David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.”

ואתא גד לות דוד ביומא ההוא ואמר ליה סק אקים קדם יי מדבחא בבית אידרי דארון יבסאה:
ybsah darwn aydry bbyth mdbkha yy qdm aqym sq lyh wamr hhwa bywma dwd lwth gd watha
Gad came that day to David and said to him, “Go up, build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

וסליק דוד כפתגמא דגד כמא דפקיד יי:
yy dpqyd kma dgd kpthgma dwd wslyq
David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Yahweh commanded.

ואסתכי ארון וחזא ית מלכא וית עבדוהי עברין עלוהי ונפק ארון וסגיד למלכא אפוהי על ארעא:
area el apwhy lmlka wsgyd arwn wnpq elwhy ebryn ebdwhy wyth mlka yth wkhza arwn wasthky
Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. Then Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

ואמר ארון מא דין אתא רבוני מלכא לות עבדיה ואמר דוד למזבן מנך ית בית אידרי למבנא מדבחא קדם יי ויתכלי מותנא מעל עמא:
ema mel mwthna wythkly yy qdm mdbkha lmbna aydry byth yth mnk lmzbn dwd wamr ebdyh lwth mlka rbwny atha dyn ma arwn wamr
Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” David said, “To buy your threshing floor, to build an altar to Yahweh, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”

ואמר ארון לדוד יסב ויסק רבוני מלכא דתקין בעינוהי חזי תוריא דכשרין לעלתא ומוריגיא ומני תוריא לאעיא:
laeya thwrya wmny wmwrygya leltha dkshryn thwrya khzy beynwhy dthqyn mlka rbwny wysq ysb ldwd arwn wamr
Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.

כלא יהב ארון מלכא למלכא די בעא מניה מלכא ואמר ארון למלכא יי אלהך יקביל קורבנך ברעוא:
brewa qwrbnk yqbyl alhk yy lmlka arwn wamr mlka mnyh bea dy lmlka mlka arwn yhb kla
All this, O king, does Araunah give to the king.” Araunah said to the king, “May Yahweh your God accept you.”

ואמר מלכא לארון לא ארי מזבן אזבון מנך בדמין ולא אסיק קדם יי אלהי עלון מגן וזבן דוד ית בית אידרי וית תוריא בכסף סלעין חמשין:
khmshyn sleyn bksp thwrya wyth aydry byth yth dwd wzbn mgn elwn alhy yy qdm asyq wla bdmyn mnk azbwn mzbn ary la larwn mlka wamr
The king said to Araunah, “No, but I will most certainly buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to Yahweh my God which cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25
ובנא תמן דוד מדבחא קדם יי ואסיק עלון ונכסת קודשין וקביל יי צלות דירי ארעא ואתכלי מותנא מעל ישראל:
yshral mel mwthna wathkly area dyry tslwth yy wqbyl qwdshyn wnksth elwn wasyq yy qdm mdbkha dwd thmn wbna
David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was removed from Israel.
